1. What is Kesher? Kesher is JCP's new afterschool program that creates a unique community of elementary aged children, who together, explore their Jewish history, culture, and identity. Fall 2008 will accept students entering K-5. The program will age up with the children through High School, year to year.

2. Kesher meets twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the year from mid-September through late May. The afternoon begins at 3 PM with supervised play activities and homework lab. Students arrive as their school day lets out, and the afternoon continues with Hebrew, Judaics & Song, ending at 6 PM.

3. About the Kesher Curriculum . . .students explore Judaism in three year cycles which allows them to revisit their learning areas as they get older and become more sophisticated learners. Each year is focused on two themes (Jewish history and memory, Values and Ethics, Jewish Holidays and Cycles of Time). For those wishing to prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, participation in Kesher will prepare students for their celebration.

4. Meet the Director: Hollis Gauss, MA joins JCP this Fall after serving as the Director of Education and Director of Jewish Family LIfe at Congregation B'nai Jeshrun (BJ) in New York CIty. She will be joining the JCP family full time as of August, 2008.

5. The Kesher faculty are expert Jewish educators who meet daily as a teaching staff to prepare lessons and learn together. Kesher Faculty spend the entire afternoon at JCP preparing for class, refining their group teaching skills, and sharing best teaching practices.

6. Depending on need, bus transportation will be available from St. Ann's and Packer in Brooklyn; from Claremont in Lower Manhattan; and from Little Red School and VCS. Walking escorts from PS 89, PS 234, and PS 50 also available.
